Catholic Tradition & Blushing Romance in Paradise

Catholic Tradition & Blushing Romance in Paradise

Congratulations to the darling Cristina and Peter from Seattle who wed with the help of VOWS Maui this February at Maria Lanakila Parish and Punakea Palms! It was a sweet and intimate Catholic ceremony with Filipino traditions to start in Lahaina Town then up the hill to the Launiopoko neighborhood of Maui for an elegant and fun reception. Guests were wow’d by the sweeping ocean views and the big smiles on our clients’ faces. Many Mahalos to our hardworking and creative vendor partners: Jana Dillon Photography, Café O’Lei Catering, Aloha Bars, Maui DJ Services, Bella Bloom, Cake Fanatics, Miss B Calligraphy, Hawaiian Style Event Rentals, Mei’Li Autumn Beauty, Catered Coconut, Creative Coverings, Pacific Portables, and Travel Plaza...

Here at VOWS, we were so thrilled to be featured not only on the Style Me Pretty Destination Wedding Page, but as the blog’s cover story on October 29th! The truly unique jewel tone palette made this wedding one of a kind and an inspiration. It was a fabulous team effort to bring the clients’ vision to life. I can’t get over the talents that came together so beautifully on this special day in paradise. VOWS recruited the best Maui wedding vendors, including:  Andaz Maui, Erich McVey Photography, Mandy Grace Designs, Set Maui, Signature Maui, Adorn, La Happy and Rio Event Rentals. 12 Years Later…Still Love Being a Wedding Coordinator

I need to be Madonna in this business. I’ve always admired her talent of evolving her craft and look with the times. As a wedding coordinator being up on the trends is key to making each season of our brides (and now grooms) happy. Pinterest and other social media sites have brought the word “trend” to a new level. When I started in 2003, it was still about tearing pictures out of magazines. Every bride had a stack they brought to meetings and my office was full of them for reference on colors, flowers, linens and even vendors that were doing the recent and fabulous.  Boy, have times changed. Evolution of the Trends I love the color palettes that come back around. Crazy to think I’ve been in this business long enough for that to happen. Purple, for example, was HUGE when I started then became the “what? you can’t have purple!” decade and now, of course, it’s back but has to be paired with its new trend buddy “gray” to be considered stylish. Gown trends, now this is something I love to watch. Yes, Miss Kate Middleton was the source of a major shift bringing back “the sleeve” from our moms’ closets. Thank goodness for variety! I’ve seen enough years of the strapless gown. Don’t get me wrong, this style universally looks good on every body type, but it’s refreshing to see some variation with lace, even half and cap sleeves. Color is also a trend I love to see! Blushes, golds, if you dare! Your grandma may wince, but remember it’s your day. More Understanding as a Wedding Coordinator My personal maturity has brought more understanding and patience for my clients. This is key for my wedding coordinator career of many hats, including the...

Style Shoot at Maui’s Hui N’oeau Visual Arts Center

I teamed up with the talented Karma Hill to bring some of the most gifted Maui vendors together to create a romantic, fashion forward, and unique combination of the popular blush and gold wedding color palette. As a Maui wedding designer, I am honored to have the inspiration of this amazing island’s culture to pull from. You can see this influence in the Maile lei look alike runner for the table and with the show-stopping tropical backdrops we chose. Our hope was the scheme would be romantic, ethereal, with a touch of Hawaiian flavor. I believe we succeeded! A favorite unique element was the tulle overlay on both tables. It was as if this cake was floating on a cloud! Gorgeous vintage glassware in ambers and pinks gave that touch of class. Watercolor table numbers and wrap around place cards complimented our ethereal theme. They stuck together on the back. A perfect solution for the wind gusts ocean side here on Maui! Our models Abby and Neil were a perfect addition. They had just wed a few days earlier on our special island. We swooned over her ombre gold vintage-esque gown by Marchesa.          Wedding Design/Styling: Katy Roberts of VOWS Wedding & Event Planning Photography: Karma of Karma Hill Photography Venue: Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center Floral Design: Della of Dellables Hair and Make up: Sarah and Lauren of Salon 253 Calligraphy/Paper: Miss B Calligraphy Cake: Maui Sweet Cakes Event Rentals (table, chairs, chandelier): Island Rents Tableware: Set Maui Linens: Creative Coverings Bride’s Dress: Marchesa Notte from Rent the...
Maui Destination Wedding Success – Karlie & Matt

Maui Destination Wedding Success – Karlie & Matt

As a Maui wedding planner, I more than understand the leap of faith needed to plan a wedding from afar. Having a Maui destination wedding is a true blessing for those looking to get away from the realities of their backyard. It’s a freeing and exciting experience, but can also be stressful when you realize you can’t control every detail.  That’s where a good wedding planner comes in. Maui wedding planner Sending photos, reviews and reassurances is my first step in instilling a couples’ confidence in a destination wedding. A trip to Maui prior to wedding week is ideal if budget and time allow, but not mandatory. Instead, I encourage couples to talk to others that have had a Maui destination wedding. I connect current and former clients. I offer flexible wedding packages that give couples options on how they would like to work together. Some like to hand over the reins to me while others want to lead the charge with my support. Full planning is most popular and encouraged. Having someone with experience, relationships, and expertise holding your hand along the way is priceless. (See more about my experience and approach at Why VOWS .) A wedding planner is truly an investment in your engagement as well as your wedding day. You want this time together to be fun and stress free. Maui wedding planner Another way I help make my clients feel confident in their Maui destination wedding decision is to focus on (and get excited about) their top priorities. I make it my mission to get them beyond right. As a Maui wedding planner, I’m used to driving the island in search of the right venue fit for my clients. I take photos, video, taste and touch on my couples’ behalf. My goal is to make sure I have exceeded my clients’ expectations when they step off the...
